Do I need an existing account to order?
If you have not ordered from us before then we will create an account
when you place your first order. We can also create an account should you wish to order in
the future; simply contact us. You do not need an
account to use the shopping basket, and existing accounts do not automatically have a
basket set up; if you want to make use of the shopping basket then you will need to register if you have not already done so.
Can my company be invoiced for orders?
This facility is only available to companies in the UK. If you do not
have an existing account then we can create one for your company. However, we require
payment with the first order and you will need to complete a business terms application
form. If you place an order through the site please mention in the comments field
that you also require business terms and we will include the necessary forms with the
order.
Can I order books that are not listed in the catalogue or on
this site?
Although we try and list all of the books that are currently available
on the site and in our catalogue we are still often able to obtain other titles. If you
cannot find the book(s) you are looking for then please use our feedback form or send a message to www@computer-manuals.co.uk with as much
information as possible, such as title, author, ISBN and publisher.
I don't want to order over the Internet. How can I place my
order?
You can also order by telephone, fax, or post; for these details please
read our contact information.
The order form asks for my credit card details, but I don't
trust the Internet to be secure. Can I still order the books?
When you have a secure link to our site the order forms will include
fields to enter your credit card details. However, these are not required fields and if
you choose no on the credit card payment section we will contact you for payment; if you
supply a telephone number then we will ring you, otherwise we will e-mail you to tell
inform you of the payment options.
I want to send you an order by electronic mail; how can I do
this securely?
Rather than using the secure system we have in place on our site, you
can also send us encrypted orders via e-mail. We have PGP (international version), and you
can download our public key to add to your key ring. If you
haven't already got PGP, and would like to obtain it or get further information, then we
recommend a visit to the International PGP Home
Page.
If some of the books I order are not in stock, will the
order be held until all of them are available?
If any of the titles are not currently in stock we will despatch all
those that are available. As other titles come into stock they will be sent out.
I have an SSL compatible browser; why can't I send secure
orders?
- Proxy servers/firewalls
- If you access the Internet through a company firewall you may not be able
to use the secure system as it requires a different TCP/IP port to operate. Check with
your system administrator that port 443 is available on your firewall; if not, then you
will not be able to use any server via SSL as this is the
standard port for it's implementation.
-
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x users (may also apply to CompuServe
and AOL users):
- There is a problem with the Secure Sockets Layer version 3 (SSL3)
implementation in Internet Explorer 3. Microsoft have confirmed this is an issue, and the
workaround is to disable SSL3 support. To do this choose the View
menu and click on Options. On the Advanced
tab choose the Cryptography Settings button, and clear the check
box next to Allows SSL3 (secure) connections. Internet Explorer
will then use SSL2 to transmit data securely. You may need to restart Internet Explorer
once you have done this to ensure that it recognises the change.
-
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0/4.01/5.0 users:
- Please ensure that you have SSL2.0 and/or SSL3.0 ticked under the
Security settings for Internet Explorer. For IE4.0/4.01 this is under View
-> Internet Options -> Advanced (on IE5 this is now under Tools
-> Internet Options -> Advanced); look under the Security
heading and make sure that SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 are ticked. If they are already ticked try
the following: uncheck PCT 1.0, click Apply, turn on PCT
1.0 again, and press OK.
- You should then be able to place an ordering securely - if this still
does not work, please contact our webmaster as you
may have a different error. Please include a list of the Security options that are ticked
so that we can test your configuration to find the problem.
-
- Any Other Browser
- If you are using any other browser and are having problems please check
the following:
1. If you have a firewall ensure that port 443 is available for use as this is the
standard port number for SSL connections.
2. If you are using a proxy server - many ISPs (Internet Service Providers) now use proxy
servers such as FreeServe and Planet Online - please contact the administrator of the
proxy server to ensure that SSL connections are supported.
If you are still unable to send secure orders please choose the
non-secure server
option on the first page of our checkout, and we will ring you on the telephone number you supply to confirm your order and to take
your card details. In the comments field of the order please let us know that you were
unable to send your card details and we will investigate the problem for you; please
include the name of your ISP.
